Connect an MCP client
Step-by-step guide to connect MCPTube to Otherside, Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code, Gemini CLI and Windsurf with the /mcp address and OAuth login.
MCPTube is a remote MCP server with the Streamable HTTP transport. The address is the same in every client:
https://mcp.mcptube.com/mcp
It works without an account: the download_audio, download_video and transcribe_video tools show up in your client as soon as you add the address. When you need more, the client opens your browser so you can log in with Google, GitHub or email. To log in from the start, use https://mcp.mcptube.com/mcp?login=1.
In your terminal:
otherside mcp add --transport http mcptube https://mcp.mcptube.com/mcpOn versions without the command, add it to ~/.otherside/.mcp.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"mcptube": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://mcp.mcptube.com/mcp"
}
}
}Start Otherside (or open the /mcp panel) and the three tools show up. It works without an account; when you need more, Otherside opens your browser to log in.
On claude.ai or in Claude Desktop, open Customize > Connectors, click + Add, then Add custom connector. Fill it in and click Add:
Name: MCPTube URL: https://mcp.mcptube.com/mcp
When you connect, Claude opens the MCPTube login page. Claude’s Free plan includes one custom connector.
In ChatGPT, open Plugins, click +, then Add custom MCP server. Name it MCPTube, paste the address and choose OAuth for authentication. To finish, click Create as a plugin:
Name: MCPTube MCP server URL: https://mcp.mcptube.com/mcp Authentication: OAuth
ChatGPT opens the MCPTube login page to authorize. Connecting your own MCP servers depends on your ChatGPT plan.
In your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http mcptube https://mcp.mcptube.com/mcpThen, inside Claude Code, run /mcp, pick mcptube and follow the login in your browser.
Use Cursor’s install link, which opens Cursor and asks you to confirm:
cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=mcptube&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL21jcC5tY3B0dWJlLmNvbS9tY3AifQ%3D%3D
Or add the server by hand in the config file:
{
"mcpServers": {
"mcptube": {
"url": "https://mcp.mcptube.com/mcp"
}
}
}In Cursor’s MCP settings, click Login next to mcptube.
Open this install link in your browser; VS Code asks you to confirm:
vscode:mcp/install?%7B%22name%22%3A%22mcptube%22%2C%22type%22%3A%22http%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fmcp.mcptube.com%2Fmcp%22%7D
Or add it by hand in your project’s file:
{
"servers": {
"mcptube": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://mcp.mcptube.com/mcp"
}
}
}The tools show up in agent mode in VS Code chat.
In your terminal:
gemini mcp add --scope user --transport http mcptube https://mcp.mcptube.com/mcp
Then, inside Gemini CLI, run /mcp auth mcptube and follow the login in your browser.
Open the mcp_config.json file from Windsurf’s MCP settings, add the server and refresh the list:
{
"mcpServers": {
"mcptube": {
"serverUrl": "https://mcp.mcptube.com/mcp"
}
}
}Any MCP client with Streamable HTTP and OAuth works with the /mcp address. If your client has no OAuth, use an API key in the header:
{
"mcpServers": {
"mcptube": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://mcp.mcptube.com/mcp",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer mct_YOUR_KEY" }
}
}
}With and without an account
Without logging in, the /mcp address uses the anonymous plan, with 5 calls a day per IP. When the quota runs out or a request goes beyond the plan, your client opens the MCPTube login by itself. With an API key, send Authorization: Bearer mct_....
What to ask your assistant
- "Transcribe this video and give me the three key points: youtu.be/..."
- "Download the audio of this podcast as MP3."
- "Download this video in 720p."
The server is stateless: every call is independent. Files come back as a download link, valid for 60 minutes.
