Docs for MCPTube, the YouTube MCP server. Download audio and video and transcribe YouTube videos with AI over MCP or the REST API, with one account and quota.
MCPTube gives your AI assistant three tools for YouTube: download audio, download video and transcribe video. Use them over MCP, in Otherside, Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client that speaks HTTP, or through the REST API from your own code.

The tools take watch, youtu.be, shorts, live, embed and clip links, or just the video ID. Playlists are not supported.
Use the Examples in switch in the menu to toggle the examples between MCP and REST.
Where to start
- Connect an MCP client: paste the
/mcpaddress. It works without an account; when you need more, the client opens the MCPTube login. - Ask your assistant: "transcribe this video and summarize the key points".
- For scripts, create a key and use the REST API.
How MCPTube works
- The server is remote: nothing to install. Audio and video come back as a download link valid for 60 minutes.
- Transcription uses YouTube’s own captions, manual before auto-generated. With no captions, the Pro plan transcribes the audio with AI.
- The quota is per account and only counts videos that exist. See plans and quota.
